Is a Virtual Connection Possible in an Online Course?
Today I had the opportunity to sit down with Arkova Scott, an adjunct professor at Pasadena City College. She teaches an online advanced excel course. In the interview she explained how she designs the course. Scott uses a manual as a guide and translates the information into an online format. She uses a variety of multimedia to present the materials including: captivate, audio podcasts, videos, and PowerPoint presentations. Something unique about her teaching style is that she really aims to make a personal virtual connection with each and everyone of her students. She calls it a “virtual relationship.” Scott noted that her emotional feedback on student’s assignments simulates a face-to-face experience and also motivates the students to do extremely well in class. Last but not least Ms. Scott is very adamant with her routine. She has a system of when things are to be turned in to her and students know exactly when they will get their graded project back. Some of her closing thoughts were about the importance of responding and communicating to her students in a timely fashion. This helps students keep on pace. Scott seems like a great instructor and appears to cater to a variety of learning styles.

That's Me
Love ME
Some say I’m clever
While others think I’m slow
Some love me
while others pretend.
That’s me- not you, not her, not him, That’s me
I wish I could stop pretending to be--
and just be me – NOT the Me you think I should be
The me- who takes life a day at a time
Walks slow because I can.
Runs fast because that’s how it should be
loves to the deepest depths of all love.
That’s me.
That’s me-
Enjoys late nights and sweet nothings &walks to anywhere.
The one who you would never know
would lie down on the line for you
That’s me.
I’m not the one you think I am.
I’d love to be that person that fits
into- a perfect little coach purse with stiletto heels.
That’s NOT me
My Beauty & talent within is often overlooked
By your unwillingness to see the world around you exists..
That’s me and who Ill always be-

Lowlight- Wake
Fancy some music for a rainy night? This song is really relaxing. Its the kind of song you might listen to after a long day of work stuck in traffic.
Lowlight - "Wake" from John Charter on Vimeo.
Check out Lowlight- An unsigned LA indie band. They just recently released their surreal-narrative music video “Wake.” The song is from their full length album, “A Wonderful Lie.” It was mixed by Bill Reynolds of Band of Horses.
The video weaves through the song’s layered experimental soundscapes as the whispered lyrics creep with the theme of unrequited love. Lowlight’s vocalist Ed and his girl sneak into a mansion swimming pool, where later he is trapped underwater after finding her in the hands of the mansion owner.

Birds Fall Out of the Sky?
Take a look at this video. Supposedly the reason the birds fell out of the sky is because of the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy being repealed...
I strongly disagree. It's just interesting to take a look at the extreme opposites point of view.

Sarah Palin Autographed xbox
Sarah Palin recently posted a list of the Democrats she is targeting for defeat in the November elections. She said that her committee will be paying close attention to democrats who voted in favor of Obama health care and districts that she and McCain had favor from during the 2008 election.
Many people feel that the shooting of Congresswoman Gifford is related to this map. I am not so sure I agree or disagree. Regardless, the map with the cross hairs is unnecessary. I know its just a simple icon, but it allows the imagination to makes assumptions based on the association of the icon.
Palin released a statement suggesting that the alleged killer Jared Loughner is not associated with the cross hair map. She says that his history invalidates the assumption and that his "downward spiral" pre-dates Palin's imagery
Interestingly, I found this image, pay close attention to the price:

Man Freed after 30 years in Jail
A man in the US state of Texas has had his robbery conviction overturned after serving 30 years in jail - longer than anyone in Texas cleared by DNA. Cornelius Dupree Jr was jailed from 1979 to 2010 as part of a 75-year sentence for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
The 51-year-old was freed on parole in July 2010. DNA test results proved his innocence roughly one week later. A judge has now officially overturned Mr Dupree's conviction.
"It's a joy to be free again," Mr Dupree said outside the Dallas County courtroom.

I am in shock, only somewhat though. It breaks my heart because this is just one of many cases!

My Princess Boy
I think it's great that this woman wrote the book. However, I strongly disagree with the little boy being at all the interviews. He Looks extremely awkward and uncomfortable. It is almost like he is being exploited.

Kai- I choose me
Check out Kai! If you liked the Australian hit singer Missy Higgins you will LOVE KAI.
The two have very similar voices. This tune is catchy and fun.

Kai’s debut EP 11:11 is shaping up to be a brilliant collection of songs. Her song ”I Choose Me” is being launched in January 2011 for a national ad campaign for First Choice Haircutters.

Graveyards at Disney land?
When you visit Disneyland this time of year, it's easy to get distracted by the abundance of Christmas lights, decorations, holiday parades and costumed characters.
But look carefully around the theme park and you just may discover a few hidden things that give Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom a little bit of a wacky edge.
Californian Christopher Strodder knows all about the "secrets" of Disneyland, as he's been to the amusement park dozens of times throughout his life.
You may be distracted by the holiday lights and decorations at Disneyland this time of year, but if you look closely, lots of weird secrets are waiting to be discovered all over the iconic amusement park.
Strodder told AOL News that one of his weirdest discoveries while researching Disneyland was finding out just how many graveyards are actually scattered throughout the park.
Yes, graveyards.
"There are six or seven graveyards at Disneyland that can be easily seen if you take the time to look around. Four at the Haunted Mansion, including a pet cemetery, and one in the Storybook Land canal boat ride during the 'Alice 'n Wonderland' part. There's also a graveyard on Tom Sawyer Island," Strodder explained. "It's really odd, if you think about it, that there are so many tombstones at 'The Happiest Place On Earth.' "
If you look closely, he said, you can see Mickey's head on just about everything -- from countertops at restaurants and walls and bushes around the park to even more subtle Mickey heads arranged in knots on ropes at lines for rides.
"Nothing at Disneyland is ever accidental. Everything, even the hidden stuff, is put there so that guests will take notice and enjoy the details. Almost everything in the park has a backstory," Strodder said.
For instance, if you're walking around Frontierland and you see a hanging tribute to something called the Mineral Hall, Strodder said that's a nod to an old gem that stood there when the park opened.

Ohh Sally! Gucci Crew II
I heard this song on the radio last night and it's been stuck in my head. The Gucci Crew II was a Miami Bass group popular between 1986-1994. The group was made up of MC V & TFS (aka 340 Shorty), along with Disco Rick, who was their DJ early on. Is it still hot? or Not?

Lenny Kravitz, Akon and 50 Cent will be featured on the upcoming posthumous album from Michael Jackson.
